Trade show on Lake Constance is a celebration of the tuning industry
The growing popularity of personalized vehicles was very apparent at this year’s TUNING WORLD BODENSEE. The international industry forum, held in Friedrichshafen from May 13 to 16, attracted 104,800 visitors. It also set new standards with 27 product debuts, 152 clubs, a unique program of accompanying events and a strong presence from the automobile and tire sector.
„“As soon as you walk in to TUNING WORLD BODENSEE, you sense the excitement that our very varied and colorful visitors feel about personalized cars,” says Messe Friedrichshafen chief executive Klaus Wellmann. “It just seems to be limitless.” The trade show, consisting of four events, attracted car and tuning enthusiasts from all over Europe seeking news of the latest industry developments.
Personalization is becoming increasingly popular in the automobile industry, and premium manufacturer BMW attended TUNING WORLD BODENSEE for the first time, displaying its BMW Performance Accessories range. “We hadn’t expected such a positive response to our debut appearance,” says Jens Reichert of the company’s aftersales marketing department. “We had an amazing number of contacts with premium customers.”
The premium car area in hall B5, which became a feature of the exhibition for the first time last year, met with a very positive response from manufacturers and tuners. As well as BMW, the exhibitors included such marques as Fiat/Abarth, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mazda, Nissan and Škoda, and tuning, tire and accessory industry representatives said the event had brought them a lot of new business.
“Once again, the format of the exhibition was a big success,” said Harald Schmidtke, chief executive of the German tuners’ association VDAT. “And once again, even though other important tuning and motorsport events were taking place at the same time, over 100,000 people visited TUNING WORLD BODENSEE.”
The action-packed event program, including the Škoda Fun Area, the Miss Tuning beauty contest, drift and lowrider shows, awards ceremonies and three evening parties, once again showed that TUNING WORLD BODENSEE is much more than just a trade show. Project manager Dirk Kreidenweiss explains: “We focus on making it a successful mix of information, shopping and entertainment. It’s a great opportunity for visitors to share in the excitement of tuning.”
A survey of visitors also confirmed the success of this, the eighth TUNING WORLD BODENSEE. The survey revealed that the visitor catchment area around Friedrichshafen has further widened. Ninety-one percent rated the products and services on offer from exhibitors as “good” or “very good”.
A third of visitors said this was the only tuning trade show they attended, and 89 percent said they would be back next year. So the next TUNING WORLD BODENSEE, which takes place in Friedrichshafen from May 6 to 8, 2011, promises to be even better.
CAR+SOUND, the leading in-car audio trade show also made a successful debut in halls A3 and A4. Messe Sinsheim spokesman Andreas Witter commented: “TUNING WORLD BODENSEE featured 235 exhibitors, 1,100 cars and a program of events offering something for everyone. This is Europe’s biggest forum for the industry; consumers and trade visitors showed a great deal of interest, and we’re very satisfied.”
MY CAR: Messe Friedrichshafen shifts its attention to Dortmund
This year, Messe Friedrichshafen will be ratcheting up the excitement with another event, the MY CAR international tuning and sports car show, to be held at Messe Westfalenhallen Dortmund from November 11 to 14, 2010. “We really like the MY CAR concept,” says Alexander Sperr, marketing manager of Rieger Kfz-Kunststoffteile, Design und Tuning GmbH. “We’re already looking forward to the Dortmund event.”
